The Barrow of the Egtved Girl

The Egtved Girl is one of Denmark’s best preserved bronze-age findings. The young woman was buried in an oak coffin in the year 1370 B.C. The finding of the Egtved Girl in 1921 revealed one of the world’s best preserved female dresses. Today, the reconstructed grave mound – 22 ms in diameter and four ms high – can be seen along with a small museum that describes the finding.

In addition, a copy of the Egtved Girl’s coffin including dress, jewellery and buckle, etc. is displayed. The originals are on display at the Danish National Museum in Copenhagen.

The surrounding landscape has been planted to look like it did in the bronze-age.

A bronze-age festival “In the steps of the Egtved Girl” is held at the Barrow of the Egtved Girl every year in July. A live Egtved Girl tells stories and dances, followed by the sounding of lures.
