Østkystruten - National Route 5
The route follows the eastern coastline of Jutland along the inlet and strait. The route along the Vejle Inlet offers magnificent rolling beech forests and scenic vistas. The coastal route along the north side of the inlet is a nationally protected bird habitat, which is home to a number of endangered species. Tirsbæk offers splendid manor estates and seaside relaxation at a selection of beaches. The woodlands of Nørreskoven include a deer park with fallow and sika deer.
On the southern coast, a trip past the rolling woodlands of Munkebergskoven is rewarded with lush vegetation, open beaches, and not least the unique sand dunes of Hvidbjerg Klit which tower 27 metres above sea level.
Engelsholmruten - Regional Route 34Vejle-Billund, 34 km
The route runs from Vejle through rolling hills to Høgsholt and the moorland of Rugballe Mose. It continues north of Fårup Sø, which is the source of the Grejs Å (river) and a lake with numerous natural springs. At the east end of the lake you can rent water bicycles and rowing boats. There is also a kiosk. During the summer, the imposing Viking ship ‘Jelling Orm’ sets sail on the lake.
The route continues north of Engelsholm Sø (lake), the source of Vejle Å (river). It passes Engelsholm Slot, a renaissance manor from 1592 which today serves as a folk high school. The characteristic onion-shaped spires were added by merchant Gerhard de Lichtenberg in the 1730s. He also made his architectural mark on the magnificent Nørup Church.
Tiufkær - Regional Route 55Vejle-Kolding, 32 km
The route starts in downtown Vejle. The tranquil country lane passes through a gorge and the woodlands of Vejle Sønderskov and on into open landscapes and past the villages of Klattrup, Tiufkær and Håstrup. This area features varied agriculture from that of large farms to clusters of smallholdings, such as by Klattrup. The area around Tiufkær is rich in aquatic habitats for green tree frogs.
At Nørre Bjert, Route 55 leads on to National Route 5 and 6. From here the route turns to the east towards the Drejens peninsula in the Kolding Inlet, which offers views of Kidholme.
Skærupdalen - Regional Route 57 Vejle-Fredericia, 28 km
The route meanders from Vejle through villages, across open landscapes and areas of natural beauty, such as Skærup Å (river), and on to the town of Fredericia. The route runs west of the 140-hectare freshwater lake Rands Fjord, which is rich in bird life and in early autumn the home of thousands of migrating lapwing and starlings. Several hilltops offer sweeping views.
The landscape around Rands Fjord is a soft rolling mosaic of pastures and brush, fields and rolling woodlands. Three former mineral pits, which are now landscaped as lakes, offer a rich variety of flora.
