Inlets, lakes and wetlands in the Vejle region

The inlets and lakes of the Vejle region are areas of great natural beauty with graceful landscapes, manor estates and beech forests that cut into the sea. There are freshwater lakes rich in bird life, natural springs and places of prehistoric interest.

Rands Fjord is located where the valley of Elbodal opens into the Vejle Inlet. Cut off from the sea, the former inlet is now a freshwater lake surrounded by picturesque rolling hills and valleys. Scenic viewpoints. Marked pathways.

The magnificent coastline of the Vejle Inlet is characterised by beech forests, cliffs and parklands. The wildlife includes rare bird species. Beaches are family-friendly. Kiosk and campfire & BBQ area. Scenic viewpoints. Marked pathways.

Fårup Lake

Fårup Lake
Grejsdal, south of Jelling, offers a varied landscape of great natural beauty, including the Fårup Lake, natural springs, woodlands and open meadows. Rowing boat and water bicycle hire. Restaurant and kiosk. Marked pathways.

The Gudenåen spring
Rørbæk Lake, Tinnet Krat and the Gudenåen spring
The downs northeast of Give is where Denmark’s largest river, Gudenåen, has its spring. Tinnet Krat is one of Denmark’s largest primeval woodlands. Rørbæk Lake is surrounded by woodlands and cliffs. Marked pathways. Campfire & BBQ site.
Vingsted Lake
Vingsted Lake
Vingsted Lake, located between Bredsten and Ødsted, is one of the nation’s most unique sites of prehistoric interest where in the Iron Age weapons were sacrificed (so-called ‘bog sacrifices’). An Iron Age farm has been reconstructed close by. Pathways are marked. Primitive campfire site.

Kongens Kær
Kongens Kær, on the outskirts of Vejle, is a unique wetland rich in bird life, including waterfowl and wading birds. Even the rare white-tailed eagle (aka sea eagle) has made the area its home. Pathways and observation deck.
