Smidstrup Church from 1160-1200 is situated on a small hill in the village of Smidstrup. The church was built of granite squares and large mediaeval bricks and roofed with lead. The church chancel and nave are from the Roman times. The western tower, the transept and the porch on the south side of the church are late Gothic.
The frescos on the chancel arch are from 1525-1550 and depict the symbols of the evangelists.
The carved and painted communion table is from the Renaissance and the altar is from the late thirteenth century. The pulpit was delicately carved in the year 1610 and a present to the church from the young Chr. IV. The font is Roman. The church also has a rather unique organ loft from the year 1701 in rococo style.
Access to the church can be arranged by contacting Holger Jensen, tel. 75 86 02 91. |
