The Give-Egnens Museum is a unique local heritage museum that relates the bygone age of local moorland farmers and craftspeople. The museum tells the story of peat digging and the exhibitions include craft workshops, such as those of blacksmiths, wheelwrights, coachbuilders, coopers and carpenters. Also exhibited are an old classroom, an old farm kitchen and the textiles, utensils and tools of domestic life. A large collection of pipes is also on show.
The museum is centred round an original moorland farm complete with farmyard, farmhouse, barn and stable. A new and inspiring exhibition centre connects the nearly 1000-m2 permanent exhibition area with a 500-m2 special exhibition area. Three to four temporary exhibitions are featured annually. A herb garden with medicinal plants and herbs features a garden folly and an apple grove.
Waffles are baked daily on the old wood stove in the farm kitchen.
The museum is disabled-friendly. |
