Egtved's history
The first time Egtved is mentioned is in 1325 as "Ekthyuf". This means "Egtkrattet" (the oak thicket). However, we know that the area around Egtved has been inhabited for several thousand years, because the Egtved Girl, who is more than 3,000 years old, was found here.
At the beginning of the Middle Ages, Egtved was established southeast of the church, which was built in the 12th century. The small village had 11 farms in the 17th century, and only after that did the town begin to grow. Learn much more about the town’s history at the area’s exhibitions and museums.
