Choose your bike or walking boots instead of the car

Is there a better way to experience nature, neighbourhoods and villages than on two wheels or on foot? We don’t think so. So let the car take a holiday while you are on holiday.

Bring your own bike or rent one for a day or several days. Lace up your walking boots and head out on an adventure through Vejle’s many magical landscapes.

Explore, for example, the traces left by the monumental glaciers of the past in Munkebjerg Forest and the Vejle River Valley, where you can enjoy some of Denmark’s most beautiful views, including those from Runkenbjerg and Tørskind Gravel Pit. The Grejsdal Trail offers beautiful scenery and varied terrain, while Randbøl Heath and Frederikshåb Plantation can make you feel as though you have been transported to another country – one where trolls and mythical creatures might usually live.

Environmentally certified attractions, places to eat and accommodation

Buy local – it can make a difference locally. Support the local community by buying food and drinks from local producers and businesses. In Vejle’s food universe, you can discover local speciality shops, farm shops and restaurants, including places certified with the Danish Organic Cuisine Label.

Looking for somewhere to stay? You won’t have to look far. Besides spending a night under the stars in a tent or shelter, you can choose from several hotels and campsites in the area certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, Green Key or Greenstay. These certifications document that the businesses meet specific environmental requirements.

Many attractions and experiences in and around Vejle can be enjoyed free of charge and are accessible to everyone. You can also look for the Green Attraction certification when searching for attractions – an environmental certification specifically developed for visitor attractions. Experiences for everyone also mean making them accessible regardless of whether you have a disability or a hidden disability. Find more accessible experiences in and around Vejle and learn more about God Adgang and the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower programme.

How to make more mindful choices

Make your holiday consumption more considered. Many of the businesses you encounter during your stay in the Vejle area are working to reduce their climate impact. Several also work with social initiatives, for example through the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower programme. With “Vejle’s Green Guide”, you can find businesses with a focus on more considered choices.

ReFashion Vejle can guide you towards more considered choices when it comes to fashion. Clothing has a significant climate impact, but choosing second-hand can help extend the life of clothes and reduce the need for new items. Support more circular consumption by seeking out and supporting these choices.

Skip flying to Vejle and travel by public transport instead. Vejle is a hub for both buses and trains, making it easy to find public transport that suits your journey.

You can even skip a flight to an exotic destination if you want to experience wild animals on the savannah. At GIVSKUD ZOO, you can explore a world of wild animals – and even dinosaurs. Hear lions roar and wolves howl, and imagine yourself on the African savannah or in the Canadian wilderness without travelling abroad.
